Mauricio Muñoz on the chaos ahead of the 12th World Open Padel Championships in Malaga

Comment from Mauricio Muñoz on the turmoil leading up to the World Open Padel Championships in Malaga:

"I would like to have the difficult moment, the most sociable and entertaining sport, Padel, just experienced, into words.

At the outset, I would like to state that it is intolerable and terrible that the most important competition for international players, especially outside Spain, is cancelled in this way.

I am convinced that the International Padel Federation is doing an impeccable job to unite padel worldwide and to promote padel internationally. I hear that players from Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Holland (who actually wanted to participate in the tournament) say that they don't understand how this can happen and that there is no logical explanation.

Once again, the growth of sport is being permanently and irreparably damaged:
There is the one side, which from my point of view is the most important, that the people in charge cannot agree with the professional players with regard to participation in this international competition.

On the other hand, they also have to understand that a German, Swiss, Dutch or Belgian player had to apply for leave from their jobs in order to be able to live their big dream of participating in this competition, and they also invest money in order to be able to take part.

I wish that those in charge of the sport, be it players, federations, brands or companies representing the sport, would look beyond the financial interests and that, together with the FIP, synergies could be created to unite padel and respect the strength and passion that everyone puts into the sport.

I continue to dream that padel will be played all over the world, and one day even become an Olympic discipline. I hope that those responsible for the cancellation of the tournament will wake up from the nightmare we had to experience today and try to repair the irreparable damage of this decision!

Translated from the Spanish by padel enthusiast Anita Rösler, Berlin - many thanks from the padel test reaction!!!
