Originally Padel Tennis developed in Mexicobut has gained great popularity in recent years, first in Spain, then throughout Europe and other parts of the world.

Padel tennis is a mixture of tennis and squash and is played on a small court with high glass walls supplemented by a kind of grid at the top. The Padel rules are similar to tennis, but there are some important differences that make the game more exciting. In this article we will explain some of the basics of padel tennis.

Padel is a fast and exciting game based on the principle of tennis. It is played with four players - two on each side - who play over a net in the centre of the court. Each team consists of two players and each player has their own Padel Racket. Padel is a backstroke game in which players take turns hitting a ball over the net and try to play the ball so that the opponent cannot reach it.

In recent years, the number of padel players has risen rapidly, both in Spain and in other countries. In Europe, after Spain, Italy and Sweden are particularly keen on padel, but the French and Portuguese also love padel tennis! In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the padel boom started a little later - but the growth in new padel courts and padel locations is now also enormous in the German-speaking countries!

Because: Padel is THE perfect sport for all ages and skill levels. It's a great way to stay fit (much easier on the joints than tennis and even more so squash) and have a lot of fun.

And: Padel offers a great opportunity to meet new people.

This is due to the many fun tournaments that take place at all levels and where you can quickly meet new sports friends 🙂

Padel Tennis History

Padel tennis is a relatively young game that was developed in Mexico in the 1970s. Padel tennis is a combination of tennis and squash. The first padel courts were built in Mexico - although they looked very different to today's padel courts! In the 1980s, the game then found its way from Central America to Spain, where it quickly became popular.

Today, there are thousands of padel courts all over the world.

Padel Tennis Today

Padel tennis is now one of the most popular sports in Spain (now even far ahead of tennis there!), South America and Central America, and also in many other countries around the world. Despite impressive numbers, padel tennis is growing and growing!

Currently mainly in Europe and Arab countries. In large countries such as the USA, China, Russia and India, things are still quiet when it comes to padel - so there is still huge potential for growth here!

Probably in a few years there will be more than 100 million padel players worldwide!

Why is padel tennis so popular?

Padel tennis is so popular because you can play this sport "just for fun" but also professionally. You can burn a lot of calories in a short space of time and really work out. Padel is also a very social sport: you play as a foursome in a much smaller space than with tennis and the many types of tournaments (e.g. Americano) and the sociable atmosphere mean you constantly have the opportunity to meet new people.

And the best thing for beginners: after just 20 minutes of instruction, beginners can start their first match.

And will have just as much fun as the top players. Promise!

Where can you play padel tennis?

Padel tennis can basically be played in many different places. In Spain, Argentina and other countries where the padel boom started early, you can also find padel courts in many small towns and villages.

In the "new" padel countries such as Germany, most padel courts are located in metropolitan areas.

But thanks to our Padel Tennis Cards you can quickly find the nearest padel court:

Padel Courts Germany Map

Padel Courts Austria Map

Padel Courts Switzerland Map

Padel courts international map

Padel Tennis Explanation - actually, Padel Tennis is explained quite simply: Padel Tennis is a fast and exciting game that is captivating more and more people.
